Diaper covers
Diaper covers are an essential part of your prefold or fitted diapering system. One of the questions heard most about cloth diapers is “But do they leak??”. With a great cover, you will not have leaks and blow outs. That being said, even the best diaper cover needs a good quality absorbent diaper to have a bullet proof system.
At New & Green, we have a great range of covers in different textiles. Gone are the days of hot and stiff plastic pants. We have covers that are easy to use and very comfy for your little one. Keeping messes where they should be and keeping your little one comfortable are the most important factors when we chose the covers to offer at New & Green.
One of the most popular covers are made of polyurethane laminate (PUL) which is a waterproof laminate sandwiched between two layers of polyester knit for a soft feel. These covers are machine washable, are really great at holding in wet and messy diaper contents and very durable.
Close to this category of covers is the Nylon cover. New & Green carries the Whisper pant which is a simple, lightweight pull on pant. It provides generous coverage without any bulk at all. It is also machine washable and quick to air dry.
The next category is Fleece. Yes, fleece covers. Soft and cozy and surprisingly breathable. It does make sense. Think of any of your technical hiking gear. You must have some fleece and love it for the fact that it keeps you at just the right temperature. Your baby will love fleece covers for those reasons too. Fleece works really well to keep the wet in too!
And lastly, there is wool, yes wool! Wool is what our grandmas used to put our fathers & mothers in. They were and still are referred to as wool “soakers”. Grandma had it right. Wool is a fantastic textile for a diaper cover. It has amazing properties – it is breathable, antibacterial and can absorb up to 30% of its weight. It has naturally occurring lanolin that allows the fibers to be water repellent. It keeps your baby’s skin cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It is very breathable. Wool does require hand washing but only every 1-2 weeks (remember its antibacterial properties?). It virtually self cleans. Highly recommended for a night cover, when the little cheeks you love are inside of a diaper for many hours. Whenever our little tester, Ella, gets the slightest red bum, we use a wool cover and, voila, it clears up.
